Session summary

After his invitation by the Primogen of Clan Ventrue in Brussels, the Keeper of Elysium, Jozef Boddaert, invited everyone in the Casino-Kursaal for the monthly gathering. Unfortunately, the Elysium was held on the same evening the Kine celebrated the “Sportgala” and even more unfortunate, both events were held at the same location. A lot of celebrities were present and the press was chasing every single person in their neighbourhood while taking pictures of the event. Because of the well-attended gathering of mortals, a lot of Kindred turned back to their haven.

At the side-entrance of the Casino, the Nosferatu Shelly Lampaert managed to enter the building without being noticed, albeit in a bad mood because of the large presence of mortals. Obviously she wasn’t the only local Kindred slightly worried about her safety around the Casino. Not much later, the Malkavian from Brussels, Louise Barrat, entered the Casino quite upset. She said her picture had been taken by some mortal and that she had had to do quite a bit of effort to make sure that the picture had disappeared not only from the camera but also from the mind of the photographer. After all, no Kindred was keen on seeing their picture in some magazine. The Keeper did all he could to ensure everyone’s safety, making sure that no mortal would be able to enter this private gambling hall.

The missing Kindred at the Elysium, were unfortunately the most influential ones. Nor Prince Falckenauge nor the Sheriff joined their fellow Kindred at the Elysium. Instead, a lot of neonates were to be found at the gathering. James Smith, “Ace” and Tom Declercq, a Brujah Neonate that hadn’t been seen for a long time, arrived together with a Gangrel. Keeran was apparently an American fledgling with a nasty case of amnesia which made him incapable of remembering his past. Another new face in Ostend was a confused-looking Malkavian who listened to the name of Joris Lahey. Joris was in the as usual more than charming company of the Mechlian Keeper Babette as they were both visiting the coast as Mechlian Kindred. The fact that he was wearing a bathrobe did not seem to bother him at all.

Whilst they were chatting, the American Brujahs also educated the Keeper in their experiences with the Sabbat community of the New World. Proudly, “Ace” showed him his war-scar on his chest. During the conversation, the Brujah also gathered information about the Domain of Mechelen, finding out that one of their fellow Brujahs was blood hunted in that Domain. Stefan Van Poucke was his name. Clearly James and “Ace” were insulted by the fact that a member of their Clan was behaving like a common rapist and murderer. For them it was now their personal priority to track down the Mechlian Brujah; a clear case of honor.

A short time after the arrival of the Seneschal, Mr. Vandermeersch, the situation got out of hand. Evidence was found, that someone had made a breach in the Masquerade. The Seneschal demanded from every Clanhead present to attend a private meeting to discuss the matter. Almost everyone used his or her influences in trying to learn more about the situation. After a short time, they retrieved that Herman, the Gangrel who had been kicked out of the Elysium a few months earlier by Mr. Boddaert, had been beaten to a pulp somewhere in Gistel. An eye witness had taken pictures of the body and had put it on an online public picture forum, showing it to the rest of the world. News also circulated that the paramedics realised that there was something amiss with the victim. After he was brought to a nearby hospital by helicopter, a blood sample was sent to a lab in an affiliated hospital to study it. Meanwhile, the local Kindred whispered about the Beryns from Bruges. They had a score to settle with the Gangrel, so they were the prime-suspects of this breach.

By the efforts of Shelly Lampaert and other unseen Nosferatu, the pictures were quickly removed from the online account and the computer of the eye witness. Moreover, the computer of the photographer suddenly had a technical malfunction and could no longer connect to the internet. Mr. Vandermeersch demanded Jozef Boddaert to leave his Elysium together with “Ace” and James Smith to bring the photographer to him. Shelly didn’t trust the whole situation and followed the threesome unseen. Jozef Boddaert realised very soon that it was too dangerous to bring the man to the Casino and together with the 2 Brujah, he decided to bring him to a safe house in the neighbourhood. When they arrived at the apartment, Shelly Lampaert intervened when she saw the three Kindred arguing about how to make contact with the photographer. She gave Mr. Boddaert a suggestion and the Keeper followed her advice. While pretending to be a worker from “Telenet”, able to fix the connection problem, he persuaded the man to let him into his apartment. After that it was easy to dominate the man and go through the place. While Mr. Boddaert interrogated the man, Ace took the data out of the camera. Together with the dominated man, they left the building and went to the safe house; Shelly went back to the casino. The Keeper phoned the Seneschal to come over to talk with the man. Since Mr. Vandermeersch was sure the photographer was only a bystander in the wrong place at the wrong time, he asked the Keeper to handle the situation. Jozef brought the man back to his home and used his powers to change the photographer’s memories, so the man was no threat anymore.

In the meantime, Melanie Verbert and Tom Declercq found out where the van with the blood was located. Together they stole the blood. The other Kindred found evidence that Herman was transported by a helicopter to the Heilig Hart hospital in Ostend. When they realised that the only medical helicopter in the environment was from Bruges, they were sure the Beryns were into this all. Not a few Kindred were talking about this stunt and hoped that the Beryns would be punished for this situation. Because of all the information he got, the Seneschal realised to his horror that Herman hadn’t been in torpor while he was transported to the Hospital.

Shelly, Jozef, the Brujah Neonates and the Seneshal went to the Sint Jozef Hospital to solve the breach. While Jozef was using his mental powers to change the minds of the personnel who had had contact with Herman, the others switched the body of Herman with another corpse. Meanwhile the medical files were altered so no one would notice the switch. They were sure they now had handled the whole situation and everyone was proud about what he or she had done.

At this very late hour, Alexei Kiriloff also managed to find his way to the Elysium, oblivious of what had been going on. While most kindred where busy cleaning up the mess, Jelena, Joris, Louise Barrat, Keeran and the ghoul Kitt had been left alone in the Elysium. Nobody had asked their help and the Mechlian delegation refused to help if no one asked them. During their conversations, Louise had had to silence the Malkavian ghoul more than once for her inappropriate behaviour. Also, the Mechlian Kindred had noticed that the envoy from Brussels had made quite some calls in French during the evening. Unfortunately, nobody understood what she said.

When everyone was back in the casino, Ms. Barrat demanded to have a word with everyone. She told the Kindred that the whole breach had been a carefully set up test by Prince Vermeulen himself. She accused everyone of failing the test. She did admit that they had performed better than she had expected because of the limited number of Kindred present, but not good enough. The fact that not a single Kindred had done something about the police report that had been made bothered her especially. She said that the Ostendian Kindred now had 2 month’s to learn from their errors, otherwise Prince Vermeulen would do what he had to do ….
